50 must be covid vaccinated SUMMARY The primary purpose of Shift Supervisor is to monitor and assure quality of the prescribed medical treatment and personal care services of the residents.
Assign and monitor the nursing personnel to ensure the care is administered in a timely manner and in accordance with all Federal and State Regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
Other duties may be assigned.
Plans and directs the daily functioning of the facility as related to both the clinical needs of the resident and the work routines of the staff.
Delegates effectively to staff and provides appropriate direction, support and follow up.
Assigns staff duties and responsibilities appropriately.
Maintains an effective friendly working relationship with health professionals, physicians, consultants and all others involved with the care of the residents.
Serves as a resource for nursing decisions and demonstrates problem solving ability and facilitates staff's ability to make critical decisions by notifying on-call RN.
Follow up on all incident reports (with typed investigations as needed) and ensure that all appropriate interventions are completed.
Log all of the incident reports on the appropriate tracking form.
Give all completed incident reports to the ADON.
Assistance with end of the month billing and pharmacy billing as assigned.
Complete associate evaluations as delegated by DON/ADON.
Follow up with resident complaints and abuse allegations appropriately.
Supervision of licensed and non-licensed staff on assigned unit with appropriate discipline as needed in agreement of the DON and ADON.
Assure all symbols are appropriate for each resident including but not limited to assistance symbols, falling stars, thickened liquids, wandering, etc.
Complete assigned audits in a timely manner.
Assure that all pharmacy reviews are followed up appropriately as assigned.
All duties expected of a staff nurse, due to the possibility of being utilized on the units as a staff nurse but only after other avenues have been exhausted, such as per diem staffing and agency staffing.
Attends the Interdisciplinary Care plan meeting as needed.
Reviews the 24 hour report daily and ensures that all clinical issues are followed up in a timely and appropriate manner:
falls and accidents, infections, pressure sores and other significant changes in conditions.
Reports and investigates all allegations of resident abuse and / or misappropriation of resident property.
Notifies the DON/ADON immediately in the event of suspected resident abuse.
Reviews Change -in -Condition assessments daily to ensure proper documentation of resident change of condition, notification of PCP, and notification of POA/families.
Report any deficiencies to appropriate Unit manager for correction and for QA/QI purposes.
Completion of new admission paperwork and assessments as time and availability allow.
Attendance to Managers Meeting.
Data Entry, Maintenance and Education of AAOD System as directed by MDS Coordinator and Information Systems Director.
Assuring all work is completed on the 3-11 shift.
Complete admission audits for new admissions and readmissions within 72 hours of admission.
Assure all discrepancies are followed up appropriately as assigned.
Monitor time management of all staff working 3-11.
Assists with admissions as needed to assure being completed appropriately and thoroughly.
Be a liaison for families and residents.
Any other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Establishes and maintains adequate and appropriate staffing levels for the unit.
Supervises assignments of staff nurses, medicine aides, nursing assistants and ward clerks.
Assists with reviews and evaluation of staff performance as directed by Staff Development Coordinator.
Ensures the established policies and procedures including dress codes are followed by all nursing personnel.
Assesses and evaluates staff on an ongoing basis and administers disciplinary action when indicated.
Does so in a fair and consistent manner through progressive counseling, keeping the DON/ADON informed and seeking assistance as necessary.
CLINICAL Works collaboratively with the QA Coordinator in assessing the resident and obtains accurate data for the QA.
Assist QA Coordinator in completing audits, logs and various QA programs as delegated.
Plans, implements and evaluates a comprehensive plan of care for each resident on admission and on an on going basis.
Attends the Interdisciplinary Care plan meeting as needed.
Ensures that all personnel involved with providing care to the resident are aware of the resident's care plan and that nursing personnel refer to the care plan prior to administering daily care to the resident.
Reviews the 24 hour report daily and ensures that all clinical issues are followed up in a timely and appropriate manner:
falls and accidents, infections, pressure sores and other significant changes in condition.
Ensures that all nursing care is delivered in accordance to standard nursing practice and facility policy.
RESIDENT'S RIGHTS Maintains confidentiality of all resident care information.
Ensures that all residents are treated fairly and with kindness, dignity, and respect.
Ensures that all members of the assessment team and the interdisciplinary care planning/medical/nursing team are knowledgeable of the resident's and rights including the right to refuse treatment.
Ensures that nursing-staff honor the resident's refusal of treatment request.
Ensures that such requests are in accordance with the facility's policies governing advance directives.
Reports and investigates all allegations of resident abuse and/or misappropriation of resident property.
Notifies the QACC immediately in the event of suspected resident abuse.
Reviews any complaints or grievances made by residents with appropriate follow-up and forwards to QACC.
SAFETY Has a working knowledge of the operation of equipment on the unit and ensures that staff issuing equipment correctly.
Reports equipment malfunctions to appropriate staff and completes work orders when indicated.
Identifies and removes safety hazards/devices and reports to appropriate personnel.
Assures a safe, clean, and clutter free environment.
Utilizes standard precautions by wearing protective equipment (goggles, masks, gowns, gloves) when indicated, and uses correct hand washing technique.
Ensures staff adherence to infection control policies and procedures.
Participates in Fire and Safety drills and ensures staff knowledge and adherence to facility fire and safety policies.
PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT Attends and participates in facility meetings and committees as assigned.
Serves as a positive role model to others Attends all mandatory and other scheduled in-services.
Seeks opportunities for continuing education and keeps abreast of change in the field of long term care.
Adheres to rules as outlined in the employee handbook.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and graduation from an approved nursing program.
Previous management and/or QA experience preferred.
Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures as well as laws, regulations, guidelines that pertain to long term care.
Attends and participates in continuing education programs.
COMPUTER SKILLS Enter, adjust and retrieve data using a microcomputer or personal computer and keyboard.
LANGUAGE SKILLS Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, resident's family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
REASONING ABILITY Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Must possess or be eligible for a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse in Maryland.
